Peaceful Passing: Providing Compassionate dog, cat, and small mammal Euthanasia in Scarborough and Area

Scarborough is a unique community where the city meets nature, known for the breathtaking Scarborough Bluffs and the sprawling Rouge National Urban Park. Whether you are located near the beaches of Lake Ontario, the quiet streets of Guildwood, or the bustling neighborhoods of Agincourt, Peaceful Passing is honored to serve you. We understand that for pets who have called this diverse and vibrant community home, the most comforting place to say goodbye is in their own familiar surroundings.

We believe that your pet deserves a dignified and stress-free farewell, away from the noise and anxiety of a clinic. Our Scarborough and Durham Region certified peaceful euthanasia veterinarian, Dr. Cathy Hooper, provides a calm, unhurried, and supportive presence to help guide you through this difficult transition.

Services Offered

Your dog has been your loyal friend, perhaps enjoying walks at Bluffer’s Park or exploring the trails of the Rouge. When their health fades, choosing dog euthanasia at home is a final act of deep love and respect. It spares them the stress of travel and allows them to rest in their favorite spot—whether that’s on the living room rug or in the backyard they loved. We ensure the process is peaceful, private, and filled with love.

Cats are creatures of habit who find safety in their own territory. A trip to the vet can be frightening, especially when they are unwell. Our in-home service for putting a cat to sleep removes that fear. Dr. Cathy Hooper approaches every visit with gentle sensitivity, allowing your cat to stay where they feel safest—be it on a sunny windowsill, a favorite chair, or curled up in your arms.

Sometimes, our pets pass away suddenly and without warning. Peaceful Passing can help ease this difficult time by arranging aftercare and transporting your pet to our cremation partner. Our gentle Process: What to expect

A Peaceful Passing starts with a calm and supportive environment. When our veterinarian arrives at your Scarborough home, she will walk you through the process and answer any questions you have. There is never a rush. We give you all the time you need to say goodbye in a way that feels right for you and your family.

The procedure involves two gentle injections. The first is a sedative to help your pet fall into a deep, peaceful sleep, so they won’t feel any discomfort. Once your pet is fully relaxed and you are ready, the final medication is given, which allows them to pass away gracefully. It is a humane and gentle process, designed to feel like quietly drifting off to sleep.

frequently asked questions

The cost for the visit will vary depending on the size of your pet, the distance driven, and other factors such as the need for additional time or medications. The in-home euthanasia service includes the veterinary visit to your home, a brief assessment, and the sedation & euthanasia procedure. Additionally, based on your aftercare selection, the cost may include, cremation or aquamation, transportation, and keepsakes.

It’s completely natural to question if the time is right. If you need additional clarity, you may find our Quality-of-Life Tool helpful, or you may wish to pursue a Quality-of-life assessment with one of our trusted veterinarians for further guidance.

Should you schedule a euthanasia with us, our veterinarian will briefly assess your companion upon arrival and see if you have any questions. If they feel euthanasia is not the most appropriate path at this time, they will discuss this openly and honestly with you.

We understand this is a tender time. Your veterinarian will be present in your home for 30-60 minutes, allowing ample space and time for you to say goodbye and be with your companion in a way that feels most comfortable and peaceful.

During your appointment, the vet will confirm your aftercare selection. If you opt for cremation services, the vet will handle your pet’s transportation from your home and will care for your pet’s body until they are respectfully transferred to the appointed aftercare provider.

Peaceful Passing’s priority is to accommodate our patients and we can usually have a veterinarian available for same day emergency visits. However, Peaceful Passing is not a 24 hour emergency service. If this is a serious emergency, we recommend contacting your regular veterinary clinic or the nearest veterinary emergency facility.
