Dog and cat euthanasia at home in Halton Hills

In-home dog euthanasia in Georgetown

A trip to the clinic can be hardest for a big dog whose back legs are failing. At home, your dog can lie on their own bed with their family around them, and afterwards we carry them out on a stretcher, with your help, so no one has to lift them alone.

In-home cat euthanasia in Georgetown

Many cats dread the carrier and the car far more than anything a vet does. At home there's no carrier and no drive. Your cat can stay on your lap or in a favourite spot, and our vet will work around them.

We also help rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pets at home, where they're calmest and the whole family can be there.

What happens during the visit

Our vet is usually in your home for 20 minutes to an hour. How long depends on your pet, because every pet relaxes at their own pace.

Your pet is sedated first, and most pets fall asleep within 5 to 20 minutes. The final injection is only given once your pet is deeply asleep and you're ready, and afterwards you can take as much time as you need. Every step of the visit, explained

If your pet is very nervous, we can prescribe calming medication for you to give before we arrive. Just mention it when you book.

Aftercare in Halton Hills

Private and communal cremation are both available in Halton Hills. If you choose cremation, our vet takes your pet with them and cares for them until they reach Gateway Pet Memorial. Aftercare options and timing

Paw prints, urns and other keepsakes are in our memorial store. If you're planning to bury your pet at home, please read our note on home burial first.

When we can come

We're open every day of the year, including weekends and holidays, and we can often come the same day. Our regular veterinary hours are 9 am to 6:30 pm, Monday to Saturday. Visits outside those hours carry an after-hours fee.

What affects the cost

  • Your pet's size
  • How far we travel
  • The aftercare you choose
  • Visits outside 9 am to 6:30 pm, Monday to Saturday
  • Any extra time or medication your pet needs

Your personal quote arrives soon after you fill out the form. Payment is taken when you book, by e-transfer. If e-transfer isn't possible, we take a credit card over the phone. More about fees and payment.

Questions families in Halton Hills ask

Do you come to Acton and the rural parts of Halton Hills?

Yes. We visit homes across Halton Hills, including Acton, Glen Williams, Limehouse and the rural areas in between. If you aren't sure whether we reach your address, fill out our form and we'll tell you.

Is there a travel fee to Georgetown?

Depending on where you are in Halton Hills, a travel fee may apply. It's always included in the personal quote we send you, so there are no surprises on the day.

How soon can you come?

We can often come the same day. We aren't an emergency service, so if your pet is in crisis and we can't reach you in time, please call one of the 24-hour hospitals listed on this page.

My pet has already passed away at home. Can you help?

Yes. We can collect your pet from your home and arrange their cremation. Fill out our form for a pet who has passed, and our Client Care Team will call you.

Can our other pets be there?

Most of the time it helps. Other pets can say goodbye before the visit and come back afterwards to see and sniff their friend, so they understand what has happened. If a pet gets too excited with a stranger in the house, we can decide together on the day.
